How to connect your free AI key, fill in your store details, turn on the chat, and start collecting leads. Most stores are live in a few minutes.
Thanks for picking up Sellsmith. It puts an AI sales assistant on your store that answers buyers from your live WooCommerce products, saves every chat as a lead, and hands serious buyers to WhatsApp.
If you want to go live this minute, set the chat to Message mode and turn the widget on. It collects questions and contacts with no AI key. For the full AI assistant, follow the four steps below. The whole thing takes a few minutes.
Most chat plugins are either a dumb contact form or an expensive AI bot with a monthly bill. Sellsmith answers buyers from your real catalog, runs on your own free Google Gemini key, and turns every conversation into a lead you can chase. No per-message fees.
The assistant reads your live WooCommerce products. Real prices, real stock, real variations. It never makes up an answer.
Each conversation is saved with the buyer's questions, their city, and the products they looked at. Nothing slips away.
Runs on your free Google Gemini key. No per-message fees and no surprise invoice at the end of the month.
When a buyer is ready, the assistant offers a WhatsApp button with the order pre-written. A normal wa.me link, no Business API needed.
Every conversation, transcript, city, and WhatsApp click in one calm screen inside wp-admin, with simple stats up top.
The assistant replies in the visitor's own language, from Roman Urdu to Arabic to German, in short, friendly answers.
Sellsmith is light. Chat and lead capture work without WooCommerce. Live product answers switch on automatically when WooCommerce is active.
After installing, Sellsmith adds a top-level Sellsmith menu to your wp-admin sidebar and opens its settings page for you.
The Sellsmith settings page. Five tabs: Connection, Business Profile, Chat Widget, WhatsApp, and Advanced.
In your WordPress admin go to Plugins, Add New, Upload Plugin. Choose the Sellsmith .zip file, click Install Now, then Activate. On activation it sets up its database and opens its settings page once.
Look for the Sellsmith item (chat icon) in your admin sidebar. The settings page has five tabs: Connection, Business Profile, Chat Widget, WhatsApp, and Advanced.
The settings page shows a short setup checklist: connect your Gemini key, fill your business profile, and add your WhatsApp number. Each one links straight to the right tab. The steps below cover them in detail.
The chat widget is off until you switch it on. On the Chat Widget tab, tick "Show the chat widget on my store" and save. Your assistant is now live.
AI mode runs on a free Google Gemini key that you bring yourself. This is what keeps the AI free with no monthly bill.
Go to aistudio.google.com/apikey and sign in with a Google account.
Click Create API key, then copy the key it gives you. That is everything you need.
Leave billing off on the Google Cloud project. The free tier is plenty for a normal store, and keeping billing off means you are never charged.
Open the Connection tab and paste your key into the Gemini API key field.
For safety, the key field always shows blank, even after you save. Your saved key is still there. Leaving it blank when you save keeps the existing key. Paste a new value only to replace it.
The Business Profile tab is what the assistant uses to answer questions about delivery, returns, payment, and the rest, alongside your live products. The more you fill in, the better it answers. You can write in any language.
The Business Profile tab. The assistant answers from these details, in any language.
Fill at least the Store overview and Delivery fields. The setup checklist marks this step done once both are filled.
The Chat Widget tab controls the chat bubble on your storefront. Remember it is off until you turn it on here.
Turn the widget on, set the position, brand color, title, and the messages buyers see.
Once on, the widget sits in the corner of your store, ready when a buyer has a question.
On the WhatsApp tab, enter your number and the assistant can send ready buyers to your WhatsApp with the order already written out.
Add your number in international format and keep handoff on. No Business API needed.
It uses a normal wa.me link that opens your everyday WhatsApp. There is no WhatsApp Business API and no Meta approval to deal with.
Sellsmith can run in two ways. Pick one on the Chat Widget tab under Chat mode.
The assistant answers buyers from your live products and your business profile, shows product cards, and offers the WhatsApp button. Needs a Gemini key saved.
No AI and no key. The chat collects the visitor's question and their email or phone as a lead for you to answer later. Perfect for going live instantly while you set up the AI.
A real chat: the assistant answers from your products, quotes a price, then hands the buyer to WhatsApp.
Open Sellsmith, Leads. Every conversation is saved here automatically, no setup needed.
Every conversation is saved here with stats, the first message, and the products discussed.
The Advanced tab is for fine tuning. Most stores never need to touch it.
Limits and privacy. The defaults are sensible, so most stores leave these alone.
In AI mode, visitor messages are sent to Google Gemini using your own key. Mention this in your store's privacy policy.
Sellsmith Pro is an add-on for the free plugin. It needs the free Sellsmith version 1.1.0 or newer installed and active. It adds live chat, lead scoring, alerts by email, Telegram and desktop, reply by email, business hours, and your own chat avatar. Once licensed, Pro adds its own tabs (Live chat, Branding, Alerts, and License) to the Sellsmith settings page.
The License tab. Once active, it shows your key, the expiry, and Check status and Deactivate buttons.
Install and activate Sellsmith Pro the same way you installed the free plugin. Keep the free Sellsmith plugin active too. Pro will not run on its own.
Pro adds a License tab to the Sellsmith settings page. Paste the license key you received after buying Sellsmith Pro (it looks like XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX) and press Activate license. You should see "License activated. Pro features are on."
Once active, the tab shows your masked key and expiry, with Check status and Deactivate buttons. Use Deactivate to free the key for another site. If your server cannot reach the license check, Pro keeps working for a 7-day grace window.
Pro lets you talk to buyers yourself, in real time, right inside the store chat. A buyer reaches you with a tap, you get pinged, and you reply from the Sellsmith inbox. No phone number and no extra app.
The Live chat tab: turn the button on, choose who replies, set your status text, hours, and notifications.
Sellsmith, Leads, Live now: reply to buyers in real time from your dashboard.
Open Sellsmith, Leads, then click the "Live now" filter. You get a two-pane console: live chats on the left, the conversation on the right, and a reply box. Type and the buyer sees it in seconds. Use "End & back to AI" to hand the chat back to the assistant when you are done.
While chatting, a buyer can tap "Email me this chat" to get a secure link. They can close the tab, then carry on the same conversation later from their phone or laptop.
Set when you are available so buyers see an honest status, and only expect a live reply when you are actually around.
Business hours on the Live chat tab: timezone, open days, and open and close times.
On the Alerts (Pro) tab, keep "Score every chat as Hot, Warm, or Cold" on. After each AI chat, the assistant rates the buyer and a colored score badge appears in your Leads list, with the reason on hover.
With Pro on, the Leads list gains a Score column: Hot, Warm, or Cold, with the reason on hover.
Message-mode leads are not scored, so your AI quota is only spent on real AI chats. A chat already marked Hot is not re-scored.
Pro can reach you the second a buyer needs you, three ways, so a sale never goes cold while you are away from the dashboard.
On the Alerts tab: choose your alert email, and whether to be alerted for Hot leads only, or Warm and Hot.
Telegram and desktop notifications, set under Notifications on the Live chat tab.
Add a Telegram bot token and chat ID, and Sellsmith pings your phone for every live message, with a preview and a link to the chat. There is a "Send test Telegram" button to check it, and the setup help walks you through @BotFather and @userinfobot.
While your Sellsmith inbox is open, a new live chat plays a quiet beep and shows a browser notification, so you do not miss a buyer while in another tab.
When a visitor sends a live message, you also get a short email with the message and a link to the Live now inbox. Turn it on or off under Notifications on the Live chat tab.
When you are not live, Pro lets you answer message-mode leads right from the Leads inbox, and the conversation keeps going where it started.
Reply to a message-mode lead. The visitor gets your answer plus a secure link to continue the chat.
In Sellsmith, Leads, open a lead that came in through Message mode. Under the transcript you will see a "Reply to this visitor" box.
Write your answer and press Send reply. If the visitor left an email, they get your reply plus a secure link that reopens the same chat on your store, so the conversation continues right where it began.
If the visitor left only a phone number, your reply is saved and you reach them on WhatsApp.
Put a real face or your own brand on the chat instead of the default icon, so it feels personal.
The Branding tab: choose the default icon, a Gravatar, or your own uploaded image.
Use your hosting backup tool or a plugin like UpdraftPlus. Standard practice for all WordPress updates.
Download the latest .zip and upload it via Plugins, Add New, Upload. If you run Sellsmith Pro, keep both the free and Pro plugins on matching, current versions.
Updates never erase your configuration. Your key, business profile, and saved conversations are all preserved.
Plugins, Deactivate. Turns off the widget but keeps all your settings and saved conversations. Reactivate anytime.
By default, deleting the plugin removes its settings and saved conversations. If you want to keep them, turn on "Keep my data on uninstall" on the Advanced tab before you delete. Your WooCommerce products are never affected.
